Going over statistics on speeding

When it comes to speeding, there are various factors to consider. For example, some people accidentally drive over the speed limit without realizing it, while others recklessly get behind the wheel and reach excessive speeds intentionally. Regardless, any time a driver speeds, they put lives at risk in Mecklenburg, and all other cities in North Carolina.

During 2015, 18 percent of drivers involved in deadly auto accidents were driving over the speed limit at the time of the crash, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. Moreover, 27 percent of fatal car crash victims were involved in a wreck where a driver was speeding. Tragically, many of these fatalities were entirely preventable and occurred because of careless and dangerous behavior.

In 2012, more than 10,000 people passed away in motor vehicle crashes which involved a speeding driver. Furthermore, speeding is particularly dangerous in work zones, on icy roads, and when those involved are competing in an illegal road race. However, any time a driver passes over the speed limit, they threaten the safety of everyone on the road.

Not only do speeding drivers cause crashes which claim lives, but their behavior also results in debilitating injuries. Regrettably, it is inevitable that more drivers will continue to speed and exhibit other dangerous behaviors when operating a motor vehicle, such as drive under the influence and ignore signs. For the victims of traffic accidents, pursuing all resources that can help them recover from the wreck is very important. In some cases, victims may want to look into taking their case to court.
