How do I know if my spouse is cheating?

One of the many causes of divorce in North Carolina is unfaithfulness on the part of one spouse. If you suspect your spouse may be cheating, you should observe his or her behavior and check for the presence of several common warning signs. While you do not want to be overly paranoid, you should not be naive about your spouse's actions and allow him or her to take advantage of you.

According to Family Share, most cheaters exhibit similar behaviors. One potential sign of infidelity is secrecy. Some couples keep more independence from each other with their passwords and accounts, but if your spouse starts changing passwords frequently to keep information from you, he or she may have something to hide. This may be the case especially if your spouse did not guard personal accounts so carefully in the past. Additionally, there could be a relationship going on if your spouse regularly steps out of the room to take phone calls or respond to messages.

Another potential warning sign is a significant change in your relationship. If your spouse suddenly starts showering you with gifts or treating you unusually well, it may be an attempt to assuage his or her guilt. On the other hand, a sudden decrease in physical closeness between the two of you could also spell trouble. A dramatic change in his or her attention to personal appearance could mean that a romantic interest has developed, or that your spouse is seeking a relationship.

The presence of one or more of these signs does not necessarily indicate that your spouse is cheating. However, being aware of these red flags may help confirm or relieve your suspicions. While this information is intended to inform you about potential signs of unfaithfulness, it should not be interpreted as legal advice.
