This weekend, don't let one bad play cost you the game

Even if you aren't a football fan, you are likely aware that the Super Bowl is this weekend. Millions of people tune in to this game every year, even if they only want to watch the commercials. And if you are like most Super Bowl viewers, you are likely going to be watching with a beer or cocktail in your hand.

Super Bowl Sunday is a day on which people are drinking more than usual. Because it's not a holiday weekend, however, people still need to get up and go to work on Monday morning. This makes it common for people to get in their cars and drive home after the game. This could prove to be a costly mistake if you are arrested for drunk driving.

Widespread efforts are being made to prevent drunk driving this weekend, from high-tech bags of chips to taxi and car service promotions. But many people who get arrested for DUI are barely over the legal limit and may not even feel intoxicated, so they don't see the need for calling a cab or testing their blood alcohol level.

Under these circumstances, overly harsh penalties are typically unnecessary. Unless you have a history of drunk driving, got into an accident, or were very intoxicated when pulled over, you could be a good candidate for seeking a reduction in charges and penalties. This will minimize the impact the DWI has on your life. In some cases, you could have the charges dismissed altogether.

Even if you were extremely drunk or already have DUI on your record, you can still defend yourself against charges, especially if your rights may have been violated during the traffic stop or arrest.

Of course, driving while intoxicated is dangerous and illegal, and drivers know that they should not do it. But no one is perfect; people make mistakes and bad decisions. How you respond to these situations will have a significant impact on if and how long you have to pay for these missteps.
